Why Are Construction Drawings Important?
On site, a framer references construction drawings to place a header at the correct height, while an electrician uses them to route circuits without conflicting with plumbing. Drawings that are incomplete or inconsistent between trades are a frequent cause of field delays and disputes over what was actually intended. They function as the shared source of truth every trade builds from.
Construction Drawings vs. Blueprints
Blueprint is the traditional name for construction drawings, dating back to an old reproduction process that produced white lines on a blue background. Today’s construction drawings are typically digital CAD files or plotted sheets rather than true blueprints, but the older term still gets used casually to mean the same thing: the plans a project is built from.
