We have a guest with us today who is a true admirer of SEO and a self-taught SEO giant, Radu Plugaru. With a deep knowledge of digital marketing, web promotions techniques, and business strategies, Radu started his digital journey 12 years ago. We unveil his years of the journey from a Java Developer to being a CEO of a Professional Google Rank Tracker – SEOlium in this interview. We appreciate him taking his precious time for the interview. Thank You, Radu!

Tell us how you started in your career?

Radu: I’m a computer science engineer who graduated in 2008. While still working as a Java developer for a few offshore companies I was fascinated by all those dotcom websites who became billion-dollar businesses one after the other. I didn’t care as much about the money as I just wanted to understand what the value they provided was and how all these online things worked. Their business models.

And so my Master’s degree was in “Website Promotion Techniques” (2009-2010) and that’s when I started to work on my own website and promote them. I’m a self-taught SEO specialist.

Soon, I just realized that my day job stood in the way of my true passion. And don’t get me wrong – I love programming and I continued to write code for many years after I quit my job, but SEO is simply a perfect match. You get to put all your knowledge and talent at work and there’s also the social interaction, you know, like the link-building dance!

What makes you passionate about what you do?

Radu: I just like optimizing things. Making them smaller, faster, cleaner, prettier – better. Well, this is how it all started when I launched SEOlium as an SEO agency. Since then we retired that area of the business and converted it into a professional Google rank tracker tool.

What is SEOlium?

Radu: Well, in Romania SEOlium is a full service digital marketing agency, with a focus on SEO, aka Search Engine Optimization. Worldwide, SEOlium is a Google rank tracking tool, which means it is a cloud/subscription-based software any website owner or business can use to track their overall inbound marketing success or failure and compare those metrics against their competitors’.

How did you get your idea or concept for SEOlium?

Radu: The idea isn’t new. I thought there were at least 30 competitors, but in the meantime I realized there are, in fact, hundreds. This speaks to the insane level of competition we get to compete against.

There are many Google Rank Trackers. What different do we get to see in SEOlium?

Radu: If you go to www.seolium.com you’ll see that we get a set of unique features. Of them, I’d say the honest consumption-based pricing scheme is the most important one.

We’re very transparent about what we charge people for and we’re not going to charge them for things that we don’t have to pay for. This means at SEOlium we don’t apply artificial limits to our users, depending on their monthly plan.

In fact – we don’t have monthly plans. Our users buy credit packages that don’t ever expire and they enjoy unlimited projects, reports, websites, competitors, etc. Everything but the number of monitored keywords is unlimited!

And there’s also a pricing calculator you can use to estimate your needs and expenses. There’s a secret feature though once you sign up – you can also set your projects to “On-Demand Updates”, which means that you can virtually only pay once and use our tool forever, depending on how many keywords you need to track!

What other features are you thinking to add to SEOlium in the near future?

Radu: Good question. Actually, we have a large Trello board with hundreds of pending tasks. Let me take a look, brb 😉

Tell us something about your recent Link Building attack.

Radu: Which one? 🙂

If you’re asking about the competitor link-intersection attack I did this April – I’m still about at 30% with it and will disclose my method later in a blog post. The idea here is very simple, but it’s harder to implement it, especially if you’re not very good with tools such as Microsoft Power BI, Excel, Notepad++, Mozilla Thunderbird, and others.

Look, in a nutshell – download the backlink profile for hundreds of competitors and reach out to those bloggers who mentioned at least 2 competitors in a single article.

This idea only works in very competitive industries, where there are hundreds of competitors/backlink profiles. You can literally get hundreds/thousands of high-quality backlinks quickly, but that won’t necessarily guarantee better Google ranks. That’s how competitive the niches are.

How do you advertise your product/service?

Radu: We’re still into heavy development with it, so I’m only at the planning phase with marketing. I’ve started to interview people in this industry to pick their brains about SEO stuff and start building relationships.

The plan is to also use Google Ads and Facebook Ads. And more link-building. Perhaps some influencer marketing. Social media marketing as well.

This is an area where the know-how is of utmost importance. You have to experiment a lot, pick the winning channels, and double down on them.
